Second time staying here and will definitely stay here again. The rooms are not big but hey it’s NYC. I love the old hotel charm and the hotel cat Hamlet is a bonus! Front desk Maria was incredibly helpful and the servers and concierge are all friendly. Location is unbeatable - close enough to Times Square and Fifth Avenue but far away enough from the noise.

Stayed here for five nights, and honestly, I was really disappointed. The rooms are terrible—bed sinks in the middle, making it so uncomfortable to sleep. The room was dusty, and the bathroom was super tiny, with hot water taking forever to come through.
The lady at reception (Hispanic, I believe) was not helpful at all. She had a rude attitude, looked annoyed every time we asked something, and couldn’t even help with questions about extra charges on breakfast because she “didn’t have access to check bills.” It felt like customer service was just not a priority.
The view was non-existent, just facing another building, so if you’re expecting a nice outlook, forget it. No amenities in the building either, which was a letdown. Even the doorman seemed pretty useless.
Honestly, for a Marriott, this was really disappointing. They seriously need to consider renovating or at least upgrading the customer service. Wouldn’t recommend it, especially for the price.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Algonquin. I was worried after seeing the reviews, but we had a nice experience. The service was friendly and helpful and the suite we stayed in was clean. We were on the 12th floor so we didn't hear street noise, like some other reviews claim, but maybe that's on the lower level rooms. The suite was cozy, but still plenty of space - a living room, bedroom, and bathroom. This is not a modern hotel. For those saying the furniture is outdated, that's the whole point. This place is maintaining it's historical charm and the furniture is authentic to the style back then. If you want a modern hotel, stay somewhere else. The lobby is beautiful, small, but so much character. We didn't try the food, because we explored and ate out. It's two blocks from Bryant Park, walking distance to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and 5th Ave. We saw The Great Gatsby on Broadway so for us this hotel was perfectly part of the experience. Definitely recommend.

I recently stayed at the Algonquin Marriott in New York City and was thoroughly disappointed with my experience. Here’s a breakdown of the issues I encountered:
1. Rude Staff at Check-In: From the moment I arrived, I was met with a dismissive attitude from the check-in staff, which set a negative tone for my entire stay.
2. Broken TV: The TV in my room was not functioning and stayed stuck on a boot-up screen. Despite bringing this to their attention, it was never resolved.
3. No Doorman or Luggage Assistance: Shockingly, there was no doorman to assist with our luggage, nor would they store our bags for the day. We had to walk several blocks to a nearby Hilton, which kindly allowed us to store our bags—something I would have expected from a Marriott property.
4. Indifferent Front Desk Staff: When we sought help with the luggage issue, the front desk staff seemed completely unconcerned and unprofessional, making the entire situation even more frustrating.
5. Poor Room Quality: I’ve stayed at many Marriott and Hilton properties, and I would rate the room quality here a 2/10. It was not up to the standard I expect from Marriott.
6. Overall Experience: 1/10: I can’t believe I used my hard-earned points—accumulated over years of loyalty—on this stay. It was a terrible experience, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere. There are far better options in NYC.
You can only leave a review on Marriott website if you are sent an email requesting a review. Clearly this is how they control whether these hotels get good or bad reviews.

one day before my arrival I received an email confirmation welcoming us for our upcoming stay. however, when we arrived to check in, I was informed that our reservation was canceled.
I would have expected some kind of communication rather than an immediate cancellation. my wife and I were left without a place to stay. to make matters worse, some of the front desk employees we interacted including the manager were unkind, and in certain instances, even short and rude.
