There’s a lot to like. The ambiance of the hotel takes you back to the Golden Age of Broadway. Pictures of the famous Table in the Round adorn the walls. Beautiful Art Deco architectural elements have been preserved. Hamlet VIII, the famed Algonquin cat roams the reception area like a boss. He’s a bit standoffish, but I guess that’s to be expected for a New Yorker.
Rooms are small but very functional. Staff is amazing. Location is central to Time Square, Rockefeller Center and the Theatre District, but on a quiet street with very little street noise.

We love staying here every time we visit NYC! The closets are extra large, so we have plenty of room for clothes and shoes. The rooms are quiet, which is hard to believe since it is so close to Times Square. We had drinks and breakfast, watched Hamlet roam around. Maids give daily room service which was an extra perk. The location is a simple walk to Grand Central Station and the 4, 5, or 6 line. Super easy to see the city or get to outer boroughs.

Stayed here for five nights, and honestly, I was really disappointed. The rooms are terrible—bed sinks in the middle, making it so uncomfortable to sleep. The room was dusty, and the bathroom was super tiny, with hot water taking forever to come through.
The lady at reception (Hispanic, I believe) was not helpful at all. She had a rude attitude, looked annoyed every time we asked something, and couldn’t even help with questions about extra charges on breakfast because she “didn’t have access to check bills.” It felt like customer service was just not a priority.
The view was non-existent, just facing another building, so if you’re expecting a nice outlook, forget it. No amenities in the building either, which was a letdown. Even the doorman seemed pretty useless.
Honestly, for a Marriott, this was really disappointing. They seriously need to consider renovating or at least upgrading the customer service. Wouldn’t recommend it, especially for the price.

Second time staying here and will definitely stay here again. The rooms are not big but hey it’s NYC. I love the old hotel charm and the hotel cat Hamlet is a bonus! Front desk Maria was incredibly helpful and the servers and concierge are all friendly. Location is unbeatable - close enough to Times Square and Fifth Avenue but far away enough from the noise.

Loved our stay in a King size bed in what for NYC was a large size room. Nice closet and a bathroom that had what it needed in a very small space - kudos to the designer who figured out how to maximize the functionality in a tiny space. Enough room for 1 to shower while the other person in the couple could use the sink. TV didn't seem to have streaming options, but we were in NYC, lots to see and do and walk to and very tired when we got back to our room. Very quiet - the room opened on the back side of the hotel and we even had the windows open for some cool air and it really wasn't noisy. We finally found the coffee station hidden away off the lobby, but the coffee was very good, lots of options for coffee drinks and nice selection of tea bags.
The front desk staff was very engaging and gave some great recommendations, very personable. When they saw us coming back our firt night with a small bottle of milk, they asked if we wanted a fridge brought up - it arrived very quickly. As did the blankets we requested, great service. Quiet room, very happy. The mattress may be due to be changed shortly, but that was the only issue, it was ok, but not great. Overall, great stay at the Algonquin!
